Food was served up fast, but how can the place still smell like cigarette smoke since the smoking ban went into effect in 2005. Maybe they still smoke in the bar. Not recommended if you don't like that smell.

I've been here a few times over the years. The very first time I was impressed. The second time, I was exceedingly disappointed. On a most recent visit, I grudgingly give them three stars. The food was tasty and plentiful, if overly cooked and Americanized. The ambience is a clean and service was acceptible.The three of us tried one of the family-style options. This turned out to be much too much to eat, but gave us a hefty sampling of the menu and leftovers for the next day. The won ton soup came first. Simple and as expected. We'd also ordered the new (!), incredible (!), unmissable (!) dumplings. We were expecting some good dim sum. They turned out to be a steamer basket of the same dumplings they put in the won ton soup. Oh, well. The other appetizer was a plate of BBQ pork with dipping sauces. Nothing special there.The entrees began arriving on towering metal trays (that are a bit beat up and need to be replaced). We helped ourselves to Pork Fried Rice (lots of rice, a little pork and egg), General Tso's chicken (big chunks of lightly breaded chicken with 1 star of spice when we asked for 3), Pork Stir Fry had plenty of noodles and veggies and a little pork, Broccoli Beef was exactly that. Everything was edible, if a bit over-sauced and dark.We won't be in a big rush to get back and are still trying to figure out why it's easier to find good Thai and Japanese food in Kirkland than Chinese.

My husband and I took his mother there for dinner. Years ago we had dinner there and I was not impressed. Well we recently stopped by because we were so hungry for Chinese food. I told my mother-in-law that I am very impressed. It seems like their dishes improved. We were all pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food. It was so fresh!I ordered chicken with broccoli with rice (white.) I was impressed.I am part Chinese so I can tell if it is authentic or not LOL I was impressed. Did I say I was impressed... Yes I was and I will be back again :)

I think Chan has other places, but this is the Kirkland one. Chan's Place is a Kirkland institution. I think they built this part of Kirkland around it. I've come here at various times over the years, and the food and service seems to have gone up and down a bit over time.The food is currently pretty good, but it has been better at times in the past. They always have some interesting menu choices. At one time they had based their menu on the game of "Clue!" so there are some lingering items like the Colonel Mustard dinner, or something like that. The Chan's version of spicy isn't as spicy as many others. I find that I need to bump the heat level up by one star here, just on general principles.I don't think I could ever accuse Chan's of being speedy, but they're at least acceptably fast in most cases. There is often a pretty good-sized crowd here, and the kitchen is probably tiny, so I figure I should cut them some slack. The staff is pleasant and efficient, once the food comes out.

Chan's Place was a nice surprise. We came here because we were car shopping (across the street), and needed to get some food in our stomachs so we could think more clearly. The restaurant was pretty empty (Saturday, around 2:00). Service was attentive and the staff was very friendly. I had the mushu vegetables and my husband had a combination lunch. Servings were extremely generous and the food was tasty! The mushu vegetables were a tad on the greasy side, but it had that great flavor that only comes from a well-seasoned wok. Oh, and the place was incredibly clean--a rare treat for a Chinese restaurant. I'd definitely come back here again.

THE best! I have been coming here for awhile and it is always so good. I'm not sure why people give this place bad reviews. Everything is good, fresh and always tasting just right. Not that soggy deep fried crap.Just to let you know how awesome this place is, my wife and I hadn't been in here for about 9 months and we come back and they immediately recognize us. Down to the dish and how spicy. Now that's good service.

I've generally eaten at Hunan's, about a quarter mile West of Chans and saw reviews that Chans was better. Yes, it's clean, interesting decor. But I wasn't impressed by the food. Sweet & sour pork was tough and cashew chicken was smothered in some sort of gravy. Even the wan ton soup was poor. There must be better places around Kirkland.

Fast Service, Friendly, Fairly Priced, however, the food was mediocre. Just wasn't what I was looking for. I still ate my meal as did my husband because it wasn't bad, cooked well and the flavor was alright it just wasn't good enough to make us go back.

Looking for a decent Chinese place close to home, but this won't be it. Was pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness and warmth of the interior (outside leaves much to be desired), but the food was disappointing. It's very Americanized Chinese food. Not much authentic here, and most of its also pretty greasy. If you think orange thick sweet and sour sauce (which came with greasy and bland spring rolls) is authentic, then you may like this place. Otherwise, skip it unless you just have to have an okay Chinese fix. I won't be back. The search for a decent Kirkland north of exit 19 Chinese restaurant continues.
